It’s been a blast working with Jay on this project. He’s such a monster musician and has such great improv skills that it all came together rather quickly. Originally, we got together to share some song ideas we’d been working on, but then Jay suggested we should try to write something new. A Christmas song felt like a fun idea so we gave it a shot. And it’s not always like this, but this song came together FAST. We were bouncing chord progressions and lyrics off one another at such high speeds that it’s kind of a blur how it all came together like it did. Once it was done, we knew we had something special. The song touches on all the Christmas greed you feel as a kid, but then reflects on how, as you get older, excitement and greed transform into yearning -- for togetherness and that nostalgic, child-like Christmas spirit.
lyrics
When I was younger, about only five...
My mama pulled me aside.
She told me remember
That every December Santa’s gonna arrive.
I wrote him a letter, said I’d been good gettin’ better.
I NEED that Nintendo, to play with my friends Oh, we’d stay up all night.
Cause i want it...I want it bad
(Gimme gimme gimme gimme)
Went to a party when I was a teen
But I could barely be seen.
Some girls they were talking ‘bout that band that was rockin’ knew it had to be me.
Smoke on the water, somebody’s daughter on the six string.
I knew that December, I’d ask for a Fender
Start living the dream.
Cause I want it...I want it BAD.
(Gimme gimme gimme gimme)
Cause I want it...I want it bad bad bad bad...
(Guitar solo)
Now that I’m older, kids all left home.
I’m spending nights on my own.
It’s Christmas again and I’m thinking ‘bout when...we used to play in the snow.
Then winters got colder...not enough friends coming over.
I’m chasing that feeling, it’s got me believing I can’t wait anymore.
Cause I want it...I want it BAD
(Gimme gimme gimme gimme)
Cause I want it...I want it BAD
G-G-G-Gimme (ad lib outro)

Jane’s Party – bands that combine colours and textures from various styles into a constantly-evolving sonic tapestry; that can shift shapes from song to song and album to album while staying consistently good, consistently compelling, and consistently true to themselves....more
